How is a cone crusher mantle fitted?
In the fields of mining and stone processing, cone crushers play a pivotal role. The mantle, as a core wear – susceptible component of cone crushers, the standardization of its disassembly and installation directly impacts the equipment’s performance and service life. The following elaborates on the detailed procedures for the disassembly and installation of the mantle of cone crushers.
Preparation Work
Before disassembling and installing the mantle of a cone crusher, certain preparations are necessary to ensure the smooth execution of the operation.
Tool Preparation
- Wrenches: Prepare wrenches of various specifications, including ring wrenches and socket wrenches. These are used for disassembling and installing different types of bolts, ensuring they can fit nuts of various sizes, such as those for removing the feed hopper and the fixing bolts of the mantle.
- Screwdrivers: Select appropriate cross – recessed and flat – bladed screwdrivers to handle smaller screw connections, enabling precise operation.
- Lubricating Oil: Choose high – quality general – purpose lubricating oil. During disassembly, if the mantle adheres to other components, it can be applied to reduce disassembly difficulty. Also, it can be used to lubricate relevant parts during installation to minimize friction.
- Cleaning Cloths: Prepare sufficient lint – free cleaning cloths for cleaning the interior of the cone crusher and the mantle, ensuring no impurities are left. Additionally, a brush should be prepared to clean dust and residues in corners and crevices.
- Other Tools: A vernier caliper is required to measure the dimensions of the mantle, ensuring that the newly replaced mantle meets the specifications. Hoisting equipment, such as chain blocks and wire ropes, should be ready to assist in handling during the disassembly and installation of the mantle, reducing manual labor intensity and enhancing operational safety.
Safety Measures
- Equipment Power – off: Ensure the cone crusher is completely stopped, disconnect the power supply, and hang a “Do Not Energize” warning sign on the power switch to prevent accidental startup by others.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Operators must wear appropriate PPE, including anti – slip gloves, safety goggles, safety helmets, and work clothes. Gloves protect hands from injuries, goggles shield the eyes from flying debris, and helmets and work clothes provide overall body protection.
- Safety Zone Establishment: Set up a safety cordon around the cone crusher to prohibit unauthorized personnel from entering the operation area, thus avoiding potential accidents.
Disassembly Steps
Removal of the Feed Hopper
Use a suitable wrench to loosen the fastening bolts on the feed hopper. When loosening the bolts, follow a diagonal sequence to ensure even force on the feed hopper and prevent deformation. Carefully remove the feed hopper from the cone crusher. Since the feed hopper is usually heavy, it is advisable to use hoisting equipment for removal and place it in a safe, flat location to avoid damage from collisions.
Disassembly of the Mantle
Open the maintenance door of the cone crusher and use a screwdriver to loosen the bolts fixing the mantle inside the cone crusher. When removing the bolts, also follow the diagonal – removal principle to avoid uneven force on the mantle. Once the bolts are loosened, use hoisting equipment to slowly lift and gently remove the mantle. If the mantle adheres to other components, apply an appropriate amount of lubricating oil to the adhered area. After waiting for a while, try to disassemble it again to facilitate separation. During the disassembly process, closely observe the connection between the mantle and other components to prevent equipment damage caused by forced disassembly.
Cleaning Work
After the mantle is disassembled, thoroughly clean the interior of the cone crusher. First, use a brush to remove large – sized residues, and then use cleaning cloths to wipe all corners and crevices, ensuring no impurities or debris remain inside the machine. Pay special attention to cleaning the installation area of the mantle, removing residual old sealant and rust, providing a good foundation for the installation of the new mantle.
Installation Steps
Preparation of the Mantle
Before installing the new mantle, ensure that it is compatible with the cone crusher and meets the specification requirements. Use a vernier caliper to measure the key dimensions of the new mantle, such as diameter and thickness, and compare them with the standard dimensions in the equipment manual. Meanwhile, check whether the new mantle is intact, without cracks, blowholes, or other defects. Clean it thoroughly with cleaning cloths to remove surface oil stains and anti – rust coatings. Additionally, prepare new sealant and gaskets to ensure good sealing after installation.
Installation of the Mantle
Use hoisting equipment to gently place the new mantle inside the cone crusher. Lower it slowly to ensure it fits perfectly with other parts and that the bolt holes are aligned. During the placement process, assign a dedicated person to monitor the position of the mantle to avoid collisions with other components. Use a screwdriver to initially fix the bolts, but do not tighten them fully. First, screw on all the bolts to stabilize the position of the mantle, and then gradually tighten the bolts in a diagonal sequence. Tighten the bolts to the specified torque in 2 – 3 stages. A torque wrench can be used to ensure consistent tightening force of the bolts, preventing damage or loosening of the mantle due to uneven force.
Installation of the Feed Hopper
Place the feed hopper on the cone crusher, align the installation holes, and use a wrench to tighten the bolts. Tighten the bolts in a diagonal sequence to ensure the feed hopper is firmly connected to the machine. After tightening the bolts, check whether the installation position of the feed hopper is correct and whether there is any inclination or misalignment.
Inspection and Testing
After the installation is completed, carefully check whether all parts of the cone crusher are installed correctly, ensuring that all bolts are tightly fastened and seals are properly sealed. Connect the power supply, start the cone crusher, and first conduct a no – load test run. Observe whether the equipment operates smoothly and whether there are any abnormal vibrations or noises. After a 5 – 10 – minute no – load operation, conduct a load test. Gradually increase the material input and observe the working condition of the mantle and the crushing effect of the equipment to ensure everything is normal.
Maintenance and Upkeep
To ensure the long – term stable operation of the cone crusher, regular maintenance and upkeep are essential. The following are some common maintenance measures:
- Regular Wear Inspection: Establish a regular inspection system. Inspect the wear level of the mantle at least once a week. The wear can be evaluated by measuring the thickness of the mantle or observing the surface wear condition. When the wear reaches a level that affects the crushing effect or poses a safety risk, replace the mantle in a timely manner.
- Equipment Cleaning: Clean the interior and exterior of the cone crusher at the end of each working day to remove accumulated dust and impurities. Conduct a deep cleaning of the equipment regularly, for example, once a month. Use specialized cleaning agents to remove stubborn stains, preventing dust and impurities from entering the equipment and affecting its performance.
- Lubrication of Moving Parts: According to the requirements of the equipment manual, lubricate the moving parts of the cone crusher, such as bearings and transmission shafts, regularly. Select suitable lubricants and ensure the proper amount of lubrication to reduce friction and wear and extend the service life of the parts. At the same time, regularly check whether the lubrication system is functioning properly and whether there is any oil leakage.
Conclusion
The disassembly and installation of the mantle of a cone crusher is a meticulous process. By following the above – mentioned steps and conducting regular maintenance, the normal operation of the cone crusher can be guaranteed, and its service life can be extended. During the operation, it is crucial to strictly comply with relevant safety regulations, pay attention to personal protective measures, and ensure the safety of operators. Moreover, it is recommended that operators continuously learn and master the relevant knowledge and skills of cone crushers to improve their equipment maintenance and fault – handling capabilities, ensuring the efficient operation of mining production.
